About the tour

Sixty kilometres of water separate Hong Kong and Macau, but the two cities could not feel more different. One is vertical, neon-lit, relentlessly modern; the other is cobblestoned, baroque-spired, and quietly Portuguese. This six-day tour holds both — and the contrast is the point.

Day-by-day

Days 1–2 — Hong Kong arrival and highlights. Airport pickup, hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui. Day 1 afternoon: Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and harbour orientation, welcome dinner. Day 2: Victoria Peak by tram, Hong Kong Island's SoHo escalator and Man Mo Temple, afternoon free for the Jade Market or a harbour cruise, evening dim sum.

Day 3 — Lantau Island. Ferry to Lantau, Ngong Ping cable car, Tian Tan Buddha and Po Lin Monastery vegetarian lunch, afternoon at the stilt-village of Tai O. Return to Hong Kong at golden hour. Evening at leisure in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Day 4 — Ferry to Macau and historic centre. Morning TurboJet ferry from the Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal (one hour). Hotel check-in in the Cotai or Macau Peninsula. Afternoon walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre: the Ruins of St Paul's Façade, Fortaleza do Monte, Senado Square with its wave-pattern mosaic pavement, and the A-Ma Temple — the oldest in Macau, dating to 1488. Evening: the Macau Tower or a pastel de nata at a century-old Portuguese bakery.

Day 5 — Cotai, Taipa Village, and Coloane. Morning visit to the Cotai Strip — the land-reclamation corridor linking Taipa and Coloane islands, now home to the largest concentration of integrated resort hotels in the world. Afternoon pivot to Taipa Village: traditional Macanese townhouses, the House of the Mandarin's Mistress, and the best almond cookies in the region. Optional late afternoon: Coloane's quiet Hac Sa black-sand beach. Farewell dinner in a restaurant serving Macanese cuisine — the hybrid of Portuguese, African, Indian, and Chinese flavours born of four centuries of trade.

Day 6 — Departure from Macau or Hong Kong. Ferry back to Hong Kong airport if departing from HK, or direct departure from Macau International Airport. AMIST guide coordinates all airport logistics.

Why we run it

The Hong Kong–Macau combination is one of the most requested itineraries from our Sakhalin clients since we opened the Hong Kong office in 2011. Macau in particular surprises guests who expect only casinos: the historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005, and the city's 400-year-old fusion cuisine is unlike anything available in Russia or Japan. We built this tour because the two cities, taken together, tell a story that neither tells alone — the full sweep of European and Chinese trade history meeting on the South China Sea.
