Aniva Lighthouse + Sunsets and Sunrises at Busse Lagoon

Two days by the water — sea voyage out, sunset over the lagoon, sunrise the next morning

23 May — 14 October 2 days / 1 night Sakhalin

About the tour

In 1939 the Japanese lit a new lighthouse on a sheer rock at Cape Aniva — a thirty-one-metre concrete cylinder, one of the most significant pre-war engineering structures of southern Sakhalin. Eighty-odd years on, the same silhouette stands above the water, overgrown with copper patina and seaweed. You reach it by boat from Korsakov, and it's one of the two points around which this short two-day route is built. The other is Busse Lagoon, forty kilometres further north, where that same evening ends with an oyster dinner and the next morning begins with sunrise over the salt water.

Two days split into two contrasting rhythms: midday and evening of one day, sunrise and return of the other.

Day one: Aniva Lighthouse, oysters, sunset at Busse. Departure from Korsakov around midday by boat, crossing to Cape Aniva under a warm coastal wind, about an hour at the lighthouse — the guide tells the history of the station and its pre-war keeper. On the way back — into Busse Lagoon: a saltwater lake connected to the Sea of Okhotsk by a narrow channel, with oysters farmed here since the 1970s. For dinner they're served on the oyster island on the day they're harvested — with lemon, rye bread and a glass of white. By sunset the water in the channel shifts from steel to honey-pink — the best moment for photography.

Day two: sunrise over the lagoon and return. Accommodation, choose at booking: tent camp with mattress and sleeping bag right by the water, or a warm cabin at the field base a few minutes' walk away. Sunrise over Busse in June lifts at around four in the morning: first the mist, then the first rays along the very edge of the water, then the warmth. A short breakfast, an unhurried walk along the sand spit between lagoon and sea, and the return transfer to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk by mid-afternoon.

Group of up to ten, boat to the lighthouse, lunches and oyster dinner, accommodation in tent or at the field base (chosen at booking) — all included. Season: 26 April to 15 November — when the boat runs regularly to Aniva and the oyster season is on at the lagoon.

Two days — a concentrate of southern Sakhalin summer: one sea voyage, one sunset over salt water, one sunrise over the lagoon, twenty-four hours by the water. Guests come back with the smell of the sea on their clothes. The boat trip depends on weather — we keep a buffer day in our scheduling. Send your dates and we'll match a departure that fits.

FAQ

Does the lighthouse trip depend on weather?

Yes — the sea voyage depends entirely on sea conditions. In bad weather, when going out to sea is impossible, the voyage is cancelled or replaced by an automobile tour.

What transport is used?

For the lighthouse trip — a PVC motorboat for 8–10 passengers. To the oyster bank — a catamaran (3 km from shore). Transfer: 4×4 (2–3 guests), minibus (4–6) or coach (12–33 seats).

Can I stay at a field base instead of a tent?

Yes — accommodation at the «Busse» field base is available in comfortable apartments (bedroom, living room, kitchenette, shower) for an extra fee — ₽3,500 per night for two guests.

What's on the lunch menu?

Wild oysters with lemon and our signature sauce, baked oysters with cheese and garlic, «Sakhalin Childhood» (seasonal fish in burdock leaves), seafood soup, fresh vegetables, fruit drink, tea/coffee.

How does this tour differ from the Cape Evstafiy version?

This tour includes Aniva Lighthouse and Busse Lagoon without the Cape Evstafiy jeep tour. If you want to add Cape Evstafiy and the Turquoise Lakes, choose the extended version of the tour at ₽31,900.
