A Weekend in Muravyovo

One winter day in Muravyovo — fixed price for a minigroup of up to four, every weekend

20 December — 31 March Sakhalin 11 photos

About the tour

Muravyovo is a small village on southern Sakhalin's east coast, between Busse Lagoon and Tunaicha Lake, just over an hour from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. People come here in winter for a very specific set: a hole drilled in the ice, smelt fish in the bucket, a banya hot enough to steam, a hot tub in the snow, and a short snowmobile run along the frozen shore. One day, one route, one well-spent winter Saturday — without long drives or overnight stays.

Morning and afternoon on the ice — ice-fishing on the lagoon. Smelt is fished here from December through to early March; the gear is provided, the local guide drills the holes and shows where to drop the line. Catches are mixed with luck and patience.

From the ice, back to the Busse turbaza for lunch and the banya. Real wood-fired Russian banya — heat, birch besom, and the open chan (a wood-fired hot tub) standing right in the snow. Russian winter as it is supposed to be. Tea after, in the warm cabin.

In the afternoon — the snow-banana run. An inflatable banana towed behind a snowmobile along the frozen shore: short, fast, photogenic. For something longer, you can pre-book a snowmobile tour to Cape Evstafiya (from ₽18,000) or along the Sea of Okhotsk coast (from ₽4,500).

Group up to four people, dinner and breakfast included, gear provided, transfers from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk separate. Best season: late December through early March, while the lagoon is reliably frozen.

One day, one place, one of the cleanest winter formats AMIST runs: no schedule pressure, no early starts, and a wood-fired hot tub at the end of it. The fixed price is for a minigroup of up to four — adding two friends does not double the cost. Get in touch by phone or message; we run this every weekend through the winter.
