Bright Winter on Sakhalin 2026 (Premium)
About the tour
In January, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk has knee-deep snow and morning temperatures around -15 °C. Sakhalin's island climate is wet and sea-influenced — not the dry continental winter of mainland Russia: the island gets heavy wet snow off the sea, in quantity, and it lies for more than half the year. Six Premium days are not basic excursion winter — they're a curated set of Sakhalin winter specialities: a snowcat ascent of Mt Moskovskaya, a crab hunt on the frozen lagoon, a Gorny Vozdukh ski pass, a snowmobile day-trip to Cape Evstafiya, and a Sakhalin-cuisine masterclass.
Six days build around three winter scenarios:
Snowcat to Mt Moskovskaya — day one, after the Sakhalin breakfast. The snegobolotokhod (snowcat) is a full-size tracked ATV on low-pressure arched wheels — it goes where snowmobiles and quads can't. Mt Moskovskaya is one of the high points of the Susunaisky Range, around 1,000 metres; the route climbs through coniferous taiga to a treeless ridge with a view over Aniva Bay and all of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the valley. At the summit — a hot seafood lunch, then descent for banya and an open chan in the snow.
Crab hunt and Gorny Vozdukh — days two and four. Winter crab hunting is a Sakhalin tradition: tackle is dropped through a hole in the ice, baited; the Kamchatka king crab takes the bait and clings on with its claw. The catch is cooked on the spot. Two days at the Gorny Vozdukh ski resort — pistes for any level, modern lifts, the city and the hills in view. The ski pass is included in the tour price.
Snowmobile to Cape Evstafiya and a masterclass — day five. Snowmobile expedition to Cape Evstafiya — a coastal winter route along the Sea of Okhotsk. A masterclass on Sakhalin cuisine. The day ends with banya. Day six — departure.
Single Premium tariff: 348,800 ₽ per guest, group from two people, dates by request. Hotel accommodation is paid separately — see the price block for the four hotel options (Mega Palace 4*, Santa Resort 4*, Sunrise Hill apartments). Air tickets, equipment rental, ski equipment rental — separate. Best season: December through March.
Six winter days on Sakhalin, run as a small private group with everything booked in advance. Direct contracts with the snowcat operator, the crab fishermen and the masterclass chef — none of this is rented on the day. Departures by request, January through early March. Email the booking office with your preferred week.
Tour programme
Day 1 Snowcat to Mt Moskovskaya. Banya and chan
«Sakhalin breakfast» with a tasting of local cuisine and seafood. A thrilling snowcat adventure — climbing Mt Moskovskaya. Along the way: scenic snow-laden firs and elaborately drifted snowdrifts. At the summit — a hot seafood lunch. The day ends with a Russian banya and an open chan in the snow.

Часто задаваемые questions
What are the winter temperatures on Sakhalin?
In winter the average temperature on Sakhalin is between −10 and −20 °C. The coast can be windy, so we recommend dressing in layers and bringing wind protection. In the mountains the temperature can be lower.
Is experience needed to drive a snowcat?
No, no special experience is required. A briefing is given before the trip, and an experienced guide accompanies the group throughout the route. The snowcat is straightforward to drive.
Can I come without skiing experience?
Yes — Gorny Vozdukh has pistes for beginners and the option of taking an instructor. You can also simply ride the cable car and enjoy the views.
Why isn't accommodation included in the price?
We offer several accommodation options at different levels and price points so each guest can choose the option that suits them best. Hotel details — see the «Price» section.
Can the programme change?
The tour operator reserves the right to adjust the order of excursions depending on weather conditions and group composition; the scope and content of the excursions remain unchanged.
