Introduction to Sakhalin
Six days for first-time visitors — Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk hotel base, comfortable transfers, mid-tempo pace, the southern Sakhalin highlights
About the tour
Six days for first-time visitors to Sakhalin — the same coastal arc as our Mysterious Island tour, run at a more measured pace, with the same hotel base in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and four working days of excursions on three coasts. The framing is different: this route is positioned as the introduction itinerary for guests who haven't been to Sakhalin before, with extra time built into transfers and lunches.
Six days across four coasts:
Aniva Lighthouse and Busse Lagoon — day two. Boat trip to the abandoned 1939 Japanese lighthouse on Sivuchya Rock — the photogenic crown of southern Sakhalin. Lunch with Sakhalin oysters at Busse Lagoon, plus the turquoise lakes and Cape Evstafiya. The day touches the Karafuto period — southern Sakhalin's Japanese 1907–1945 history.
Cape Ptichy and Cape Velikan — day three. Jeep tour along the south-eastern coast. The stone sculptures of Cape Ptichy — a seabird nesting site of black-tailed gulls and cormorants. Giant rock arches, terraces and caves of Cape Velikan, sandstone shaped by the surf.
The amber coast and Tikhaya Bay — day four. The amber coast on the Sea of Okhotsk — a stretch of beach where pieces of «Sakhalin amber» still come up after spring storms. The Japanese-era Torii gates near Vzmorye. The crab market at Vzmorye village. The day ends at Tikhaya Bay below the Zhdanko Ridge.
Cape Vindis and Cape Kuznetsov — day five. Jeep tour along the south-western coast — the road towards Cape Krilon. Cape Vindis with its photogenic views; Cape Kuznetsov reached through fords at the route's southern point. Day six — departure.
Group up to ten, hotel in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk paid separately, all transfers, professional guides, meals as per programme — included. Air ticket and accommodation — separate. Departures: 12 in 2026, May through October.
Six days is the right length for a first Sakhalin trip. Less ambitious than 11- and 16-day Kuril expeditions, more substantial than a 4-day weekend visit. Departures: 12 in 2026, May through October — book at least four weeks ahead in high season. Match the next group date with the office desk.

FAQ
How do I get to Sakhalin?
Direct flights from Moscow (Aeroflot, Rossiya, S7) — about 8 hours. From Vladivostok and Khabarovsk — 1.5–2 hours. The arrival airport is A. P. Chekhov Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Airport-to-hotel transfer is included.
Do I need to be physically fit?
No special training is required, but you should be ready for walking on uneven terrain. Routes include off-road sections, dirt roads and fords on 4WD vehicles.
What's the weather like on Sakhalin in summer?
Temperatures from June to September: +15 to +25 °C. The weather is unpredictable — in one day you can run into sun, rain and fog. A membrane wind-shell is essential. The best months are July–August.
What if the weather is bad?
The tour operator reserves the right to adjust the order of excursions depending on the weather. The scope and content of the programme remain unchanged. The Aniva Lighthouse sea voyage depends on sea conditions — if it cannot run, it is replaced.
How does this differ from «Sakhalin Drive»?
The «Introduction to Sakhalin» tour includes the amber coast and Tikhaya Bay with the Japanese Torii, while «Sakhalin Drive» involves a two-day excursion with an overnight stay at Busse Lagoon. Both tours visit Aniva Lighthouse.
